FAQ

The Answers You Need

FAQs: FAQ

HOW DO I BOOK?

Simply get in touch via the contact form or email address. Include a few details about who the shoot is for, roughly when you are hoping to book for, and any other information you think relevant... and then we can work together to get your shoot booked. I will respond as quickly as I can, and always within 48 hours. If you would prefer to have a chat on the phone prior to booking, please request a call when you email.

WHAT ABOUT PAYMENT?

A one hour family or child photography session costs £350 and includes the fully edited set of digital images. The full amount is payable at the point of booking, and this reserves your chosen session date and time, and I will not accept any other clients for that slot. You can pay this via bank transfer or cheque (payable to Kay Benson) if you prefer.

WHERE CAN THE PHOTO SHOOT TAKE PLACE?

I am based in Clent and will travel to locations within a 6 mile radius of DY9 at no extra charge. You may want to choose a location that is special to you as a family or even your own garden. If you’re not sure where you would like your shoot, I can suggest suitable locations, which can be different depending on the time of year or the time of day that your shoot is planned for.

I HAVE A GIFT VOUCHER FOR A SESSION, HOW DO I USE IT?

When you book your session, please quote the serial number on the bottom of your gift voucher in lieu of payment, and this reserves your chosen session date and time, and I will not accept any other clients for that slot. Gift vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I HAVE BOOKED?

Once we have booked a date for your shoot, I will organise a pre-shoot phone consultation with you.  This is so that we can have a chat about what you might like from your shoot, and it's also a chance for you to ask me any questions.

WHAT IF I'M NERVOUS ABOUT HAVING MY PHOTO TAKEN?

Would you believe, I am too... especially since having children! So I am very familiar with that feeling, but I also know how very important it is for my children and husband to have photographs with me in. Being able to hold photographs that show the bond and love you share with your children is in my view priceless.

Most people aren't 100% comfortable with the idea of having their photo taken, but the nature of the laid back and flexible way I approach a family shoot is such that you will quickly lose yourself in the action and feel comfortable enough for the natural smiles and real moments to flow! I do gently provide a little direction at times where needed, which may mean letting you know where to walk, or suggesting funny things to do so that I can capture the laughter that follows, but there are very few 'posed' shots.

A really important aspect of family photography is choosing a photographer that you feel personally comfortable with. This is why I like to organise a chat over the phone when you book, so that we can get to know each other before the shoot, and you will also have the opportunity to ask me any questions, and I can put you at ease.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET MY PHOTOS?

After your photo shoot, I take the time to carefully edit your images in my signature style. You should expect to be able to view and download your secure gallery of images within 2 weeks of your shoot. If you need a quicker turnaround, then please do mention this on booking, and I will try to accommodate your needs whenever possible.

HOW DO I GET MY PHOTOS AFTER?

Your photos will be delivered to you in a secure online gallery. From the gallery you can print, view, and download high resolution files to your heart’s content.

HOW MANY PHOTOS WILL I GET?

For an hour photo shoot you receive a guaranteed minimum of 40 beautifully edited, high resolution images to download. However this is only a minimum and therefore if there are more lovely photos from your shoot I will never hold back from delivering more than 40 final images.

WHAT IS YOUR POLICY FOR RESCHEDULING DUE TO BAD WEATHER?

I am happy to photograph in varied weather - in fact I love puddles and muddy boots! There are times when the weather is less than ideal though, and on the morning of the shoot, I will assess the weather situation for the day and if it is looking like very extreme weather (continuous rain or extreme conditions) it may be better to postpone the shoot. For all other more moderate weather conditions, I ask you to dress and prepare accordingly, i.e. wellies, umbrellas, warm clothes… or sunhats & sunglasses if we’re lucky!

WHAT IF I NEED TO RESCHEDULE?

When I reserve the date and time agreed, I do not make any other reservations or accept any other clients for that date and time. For this reason, I ask that we stick to the agreed date and time wherever possible, as rescheduling inevitably means loss of business.

In the event of illness, these things happen, and I understand completely that a fractious, unwell child is never going to be the best recipe for a relaxed photoshoot experience. If this occurs, I suggest we postpone the shoot to a further date. There are times when I am booked up a few months ahead, so it may not always be possible to rearrange for straight away.

WHAT IF I CANCEL?

When you book and I reserve the date and time agreed, I do not make any other reservations or accept any other clients for that date and time, and as such I do have to ensure that I am protected for the lost work and revenue in the event of a cancellation. For this reason, in the event of complete cancellation, if I am unable to refill that date and time with another client, then the money already paid shall be retained in order to offset loss of business. After a cancellation, if I should be able to fill that particular date and time with another booking, then you will be entitled to a full refund.

DO YOU PROVIDE BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOS?

I usually provide a black and white version of every image in your gallery. There are the occasional times when a particular photo lends itself vastly more to being either only in colour or only in black and white, and at these times I trust my artistic judgement and provide the best possible version of that image.

DO I GET THE COPYRIGHT TO MY PHOTOS?

As the content creator, under UK copyright law I am the copyright owner of the images. However, you have the freedom to share, print, and use your images for personal use however you see fit. You are free to print the images at your lab of choice if you decide not to use the professional print lab included with your online gallery. What you can’t do is provide them to any sort of commercial entity for commercial use, so for instance if someone contacts you about using my photography to promote their business, they would need to contact me directly.

ARE YOU INSURED?

Yes, I am fully insured with both equipment insurance and public liability insurance.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING THIS?

I have been a freelance portrait photographer since 2007, and completed a BA Hons degree in Photography in 2006.

DO YOU PROVIDE RAW FILES?

I shoot in RAW to ensure the maximum amount of exposure and colour information is available for my editing, however I deliver edited and finished high resolution JPEG files, and I do not provide the RAW files.

WILL MY PHOTOS APPEAR ON YOUR WEBSITE?

As a photographer it’s important to be able to showcase my current work online to attract new clients and show what I can do! Occasionally you can expect to see highlights from your shoot appear on my website, on social media or sometimes on printed advertising. There may be circumstances where families do not wish to have any images of them online for various reasons, and of course, if a client asks me not to publish their photographs, I will absolutely respect that.

AM I ALLOWED TO PUT MY PHOTOS ONLINE?

Yes of course! Whilst I would strongly urge you to have beautiful prints produced to display around your home and to give as gifts, I am fully aware that people like to share their images online too. I only ask that where you share my images from your shoot online, to please credit or tag me or my website, and I also kindly ask that you do not apply filters over the top of any of the images, as I have taken the time to make sure each image I provide you with is carefully edited in my signature style.

HOW MUCH RETOUCHING DO YOU DO?

I individually edit every image you receive for colour, contrast, exposure and style. Some images occasionally require a little more finish, however I will only ever do as much as looks natural.  If you do have any specific requests, then I am more than happy to discuss these. My real aim is to let the intrinsic beauty of you and your family shine through in the photographs naturally, so that you really don't care about that extra pound or those laughter lines, and what you actually see is beautiful memories, and the amazing bond of love between you as a family.

If you still have further questions, or if you would like to book, I would love to hear from you today!
